Hiring a home care agency is not just about price. Families are trusting someone with routines, privacy, safety, and often the most vulnerable parts of daily life.

Questions worth asking

  • How are caregivers screened and trained?
  • How do you match a caregiver to our family?
  • What happens if the caregiver is not the right fit?
  • How do you handle schedule changes or urgent needs?
  • What services do you offer if our needs grow over time?
  • What are the current rates, minimum visit requirements, and cancellation terms?
  • How are complaints reported and resolved?

Ask for specific answers in writing when the details affect cost, scheduling, or service scope. Compare the agreement with what was discussed before signing.

Verify important claims

Check the agency’s current license through the appropriate state regulator and ask for written information about insurance, caregiver screening, and service boundaries.

Take notes during each consultation and allow time to compare answers. A clear agency should explain what it can provide, what it cannot provide, and who to contact when plans change.
